The cyber security landscape has been marred with big name and large scale breaches: Equifax, Yahoo!, and Amazon, to name a few. Naturally, we expected to see an improvement in password behavior in the two years since our initial Psychology of the Password research that would protect against these threats.
However, our new research revealed just the opposite. Password behaviors remain largely unchanged from two years ago (over 50% of people didn’t change their password after a breach was uncovered), and many remain in denial that their accounts are even at risk. Even scarier? These habits (or lack thereof) and beliefs are the same whether used for personal or work accounts.
