The software world is a complex place, with varying customer requirements creating challenges in monetization, deployments and pricing. The global pandemic of 2020 emphasizes the need to both protect current revenues and build a foundation that promotes growth as the economy recovers. The emphasis on maximizing revenue is as strong as ever. Tech companies must focus on how to take products to market, through effective pricing, delivery and monetization.
Revenera’s 2020 Software Monetization and Pricing survey gathers input from leading software companies and provides you with key insights to help you navigate through the quickly changing environment.
Key findings include:
The report confirms the dominance of subscription and perpetual licensing models and the anticipated continued growth of subscription and usage-based monetization models.
- 81% of software suppliers utilize subscription models, with 37% using it as their dominant model.
- Looking forward, 53% of companies see subscriptions models growing, compared to 48% who expect to see growth in usage-based models.
SaaS deployment models will continue to see strong growth, but on-premises deployments won’t entirely disappear.
- 67% of respondents see an increase in their use of SaaS over the next 12-18 months.
- While the trend toward SaaS is clear, almost half (49%) of companies still use on-premises software as the model for more than half of product lines.
Less than half of respondents feel their pricing is aligned with the value they are providing to their customers, but among companies that leverage usage-based monetization models, 100% are confident that price and value are aligned.
